Little Tommy’s Breaking and Entering brings a magical Christmas
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Breaking and entering is typically your worst nightmare during the holiday season, but for the family chosen to be the recipient of Little Tommy’s Breaking and Entering Christmas, it’s a stroke of good luck.
Breaking and Entering Christmas is a long-standing San Diego tradition and Star 94.1’s Tommy Sablan and his team always help out a family in need to have a great Christmas. The San Diego family chosen this year missed their mother this Thanksgiving because she was in the hospital battling cancer.
Tommy believes love and holiday spirit is the best medicine, and while the family was out one December morning, Tommy broke into their house and let the magic begin. People all around the community came together donating toys, decorations, clothes, and food to help the family. Tommy and his team filled the family’s house with the donations and covered the place with holiday cheer.
Sablan’s team was able to collect over $20,000 to help the family, not including the gifts, and more is coming in. They were also able to get a donation from Southwest Airlines to send the family on vacation, when they’re ready for it, as well as a new Toyota minivan from Kearny Mesa Toyota.
Longtime radio host Tommy Sablan started Breaking and Entering Christmas about 22 years ago, but the idea really comes from his childhood experience. At five years old his dad passed away and his single mom wasn’t sure how she would provide toys for her kids during the holiday season. A good Samaritan left a box of toys at their doorstep and Sablan recalls thinking his dad must have told Santa Claus to bring them those toys.
