Local leaders urge Macy’s to reconsider Horton Plaza lawsuit

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Macy’s is pushing back on political pressure from San Diego leaders to settle a legal dispute that would turn Downtown San Diego’s nearly empty Horton Plaza mall into a mixed-use office campus.

Macy’s is suing Horton’s new owner to block the project, saying its long-term lease contract requires the mall’s owner to get Macy’s approval for major changes.

Mayor Kevin Faulconer and a coalition of Assemblymember Gloria, Supervisor Fletcher and Councilmember Ward among others urgently called on Macy’s to find a resolution to this lawsuit so the Campus at Horton redevelopment can continue to benefit San Diegans.

Gretchen Newsom from the San Diego Building Trades Council was in studio to discuss how the Macy’s lawsuit could effect our local economy.
