Local supervisor appointed to National Ocean Council
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox was appointed to the National Ocean Council’s Governance Coordinating Committee by the White House today.
In his new role, he will help advise President Barack Obama on ocean policy issues alongside the state, local and tribal representatives that make up the national committee.
"I’m incredibly honored to be asked to serve the nation on this committee,” Cox said. "Growing up in California, I have always had a love and respect for our oceans and coastlines and I will continue working to protect our big blue world.”
The committee was founded by five years ago with the aim of improving ocean health, supporting the economy, boosting safety and security and better understanding the impact humans have on oceans. improve ocean health,

Cox, a member of the California Coastal Commission, is a longtime advocate for coastal water quality testing as well as a revitalization of the area’s fishing industry.
