Jersey Mike’s City Game of the Week: St. Augustine Saints 19, Madison Warhawks 10
Can you say, “Upset?!” and I’m not just talking about the feeling the Madison Warhawks felt after their first loss of the season. St. Augustine won 19-10 against the Madison Warhawks.
In a surprising start, Saints RB Deandre Daniels scored a 70 yard TD to set the tone. In the next drive, Saints Issac Wright punched the ball out of the Warhawks hand in which Tyson Mcwilliams recovered the fumble. The Saints start definitely shook up the Warhawks as the Saints go up 13-0 in the first quarter. In the second quarter, the Warhawks make a push to regain the momentum with a TD from QB Mario Alves to WR Jaden Dir. At the end of the half, the Warhawks scored a field goal making the score 13-10. Unfortunately, that would be the last time the Warhawks would see the end zone. The Saints seal the victory with another touchdown from Daniels in the last minute of the game making the final score 19-10.
Although this was the definition of an upset, it is not surprising that St. Augustine was fired up to play Madison. In 2012, Madison defeated St. Augustine for the D4 title. In 2014, St. Augustine was victories for the D1 Championship game. In 2016, Madison answers back with a win from a 24 point deficit. Historically, these two teams are one of the better teams in San Diego and it is not shocking that St. Augustine felt like they had something to prove. With a game like this, both teams get a new lease on life.
The Madison Warhawks are 6-1 and will continue on to play away at Point Loma. St. Augustine Saints will face off with Mission Bay next week.

Preview: Week 8 of the PPR takes us to Madison High School, where the Warhawks will face off with St. Augustine Saints at 6:30pm. The two high schools are historically one of the better teams in the county. The Madison Warhawks with an impressive 6-0 record have been making a statement this year. Although proved to be one of the better teams in San Diego, the St. Augustine Saints have been struggling with inconsistent play having a 3-3 record. The Saints, led by head coach Richard Sanchez, said that unfortunately this year has had more injuries and sicknesses than usual. With a tough match up ahead of them, the Saints have personal business with the Warhawks only losing by a two touchdown deficit last year. This will both teams second conference game.
The Madison Warhawks, led by Rick Jackson, have proved that they are a talented team on both sides of the ball. Leading offensively is sophomore quarterback Mario Alves, who has thrown 9 TD passes and averages 106.8 yards per game. Catching those passes, junior wide receiver Daniel Stokes has 320 yards, 11 catches, and 5 touchdowns. Leading the team in rushing yards is junior running back Kenan Christon, who has 57 carries and 139.6 yards per game. Following him is sophomore RB Ke’ontae Springs who has 52 carries and 104.8 yards per game. On the defensive end with a strong talented offensive lineup, the defense does not disappoint. Chris Fatilua, senior linebacker, has 33 solo tackles and 3 sacks. He is considered one of the top 10 inside linebackers in the state. Talented, the Warhawks are a tough matchup for any opponent.
The St. Augustine Saints are coming off a strong 53-34 win against Point Loma. This should give them momentum coming into this game. The Saints have the ability to score the ball having two games over 50 points, however, it is just a matter if they will show up Friday night. Therefore, being a tough opponent throughout the years, they have potential to give the Warhawks a run for their money. Leading the offense is freshly started sophomore QB Angelo Peraza who completed 13-18 pass attempts for 212 yards and 4 touchdowns in his last game. Peraza was assisted by senior RB Deandre Daniels who has 77 carries and has a total of 481 yards on the season. Last game, he carried the ball 12 times and gained 186 yards with 3 TDs.
Kickoff is set for 6:30pm. Make sure to tune in to the Prep Pigskin Report this Friday at 10:30pm on KUSI for recaps and highlights of this game and more throughout the county, and be sure to follow @RedJacketArmy on Instagram and Twitter.
