Teenagers in suspected Chula Vista street-racing wreck could face criminal charges

CHULA VISTA (KUSI) — Thursday — The 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old man who are suspected of street racing could face criminal charges for the wreck they caused in Chula Vista. Their cars struck another vehicle on Paseo Del Rey, leaving one victim with serious but non-life threatening injuries. Witnesses told authorities the suspects appeared to be racing when the incident occurred. 

Both drivers were questioned and released pending further investigation by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office. Three people in total were hospitalized due to the crash. 

Wednesday — Two were transported to a local trauma hospital Wednesday after two vehicles, believed to be racing, lost control and crashed into other vehicles, including an MTS bus.

According to Chula Vista Police, the call came in just before 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon at east H Street at Paseo Del Rey.

A 70-year-old male and an elderly female were transported to the hospital with shock and head trauma.

All westbound lanes on east H Street were closed while police investigated the scene.

Traffic investigators will be on scene for at least the next few hours.
