Man accused of killing ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend to appear in court

EL CAJON (CNS) – A man accused of sneaking into a home in Dehesa, then shooting his ex-girlfriend and killing her current boyfriend, is scheduled to appear at the courthouse in El Cajon Wednesday for a preliminary hearing.

Abel Angel Martinez, 50, is charged with murder in the death of 35-year-old Eufracio Alberto Enriquez and premeditated attempted murder for the wounding of 39-year-old Leila Farmer.

About 6:25 a.m. on March 16, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a home on South Wilson Road, southwest of Alpine.

Sheriff’s homicide investigators said Martinez got into a guest home where the victims were sleeping, words were exchanged, and the defendant fired two shots, one killing Enriquez and the other striking Farmer in the arm. Martinez fled, but later turned himself in at the Alpine sheriff’s station.

Authorities said Martinez and Farmer had dated but had broken up.

Following Wednesday’s preliminary hearing, a judge will determine if enough evidence was presented for Martinez to stand trial.
