Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend will stand trial

EL CAJON (CNS) – A man accused of sneaking into a home in Dehesa, then shooting his ex-girlfriend and killing her current boyfriend, was ordered Wednesday to stand trial on murder and attempted murder charges.

Abel Angel Martinez, 50, is charged in the death of 35-year-old Eufracio Alberto Enriquez and the wounding of 39-year-old Leila Farmer.

About 6:25 a.m. on March 16, sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of shots fired at a home on South Wilson Road, southwest of Alpine.

According to sheriff’s homicide investigators, Martinez got into a guest home where the victims were sleeping and words were exchanged before the defendant allegedly fired two shots, killing Enriquez and wounding Farmer in the arm.

Martinez fled, but later turned himself in at the Alpine sheriff’s station.

El Cajon Judge Patricia Cookson found that enough evidence was presented at the defendant’s preliminary hearing to order him to stand trial. He will be back in Superior Court Oct. 14 for arraignment.
