Man arrested after attempting to snatch woman’s purse

LA MESA (CNS) – A man allegedly made a botched attempt to snatch a woman’s purse at an East County transit station Friday and was arrested a short time later.

The victim had just gotten off a trolley at the depot in the 7200 block of Alvarado Road in La Mesa when another pedestrian approached her from behind, grabbed her handbag and tried to pull it away about 10:45 a.m., according to police.

The woman resisted, and during the struggle the strap of her purse broke. She was then able to break free and flee to a nearby business, where she made an emergency call.

Patrol officers arrived minutes later and found a man matching the description of the robber at the station. The victim identified him as the one who had jumped her, and he was arrested.

Robert Mixon, 25, of San Diego was booked into county jail on suspicion of attempted robbery. Mixon also was the subject of a prior felony warrant, according to police.

The victim, whose name was withheld, was not injured during the alleged failed purse-snatching, police said.
