Man arrested after leaving the scene of a crash in Oceanside

OCEANSIDE (CNS) – A man arrested by police Sunday night on suspicion of drunken driving when he lost control of his vehicle, rolled it over and abandoned the scene remains in custody today.

A call came in at 10:37 p.m. Sunday of a vehicle that had flipped over at the intersection of Canyon Drive and Carey Road east of Mission Avenue, Oceanside Police Lt. Valencia Saadat said.

“A white sedan had overturned and the occupants were out and police found an uninjured juvenile female and went out looking for the male driver who had fled the scene,” Saadat said.

An observer saw the suspect run west, crossing the intersection with Mission Avenue. The man was subsequently found and arrested by police about 15 minutes later at Eagles Nest Way.

The suspect, described by police as a military man, sustained minor injuries and was taken into custody, Saadat said.

The vehicle sustained significant damage to all of its wheels in the rollover.
