Man assaulted by group of men in Fallbrook

FALLBROOK (CNS) – A man was assaulted and stabbed several times by members of a group of men who issued a gang challenge in Fallbrook, but he managed to walk away and get to a hospital, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

Deputies were summoned after the wounded man showed up at the Fallbrook Hospital shortly before 10:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Sgt. James Cady.

The victim told investigators he was stabbed multiple times at a nearby location after being confronted by the suspects less than a half-hour earlier, Cady said. Deputies later determined the assault had occurred in the 1100 block of S. Vine Street east of Main Avenue.

Following the attack, the victim walked away and found a relative who took him to the hospital, Cady said. The wounded man was later flown to Palomar Medical Center to be treated, he said.

Cady said the suspect had not been identified and authorities were continuing to investigate. He asked anyone with information on the assault to call the sheriff’s department at (858) 565-5200, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
