Man attempts to rob La Mesa convenience store at gunpoint

LA MESA (CNS) – La Mesa police Tuesday were on the lookout for a man who attempted to rob a 7-Eleven store at gunpoint.

The gunman entered the convenience store at 8747 La Mesa Blvd. shortly before 11 p.m. Monday and browsed around the aisles for a few minutes, then left without buying anything, according to La Mesa police.

He returned about a minute later, walked up a cashier and lifted his shirt to reveal a handgun tucked in his waistband, police said in a statement.

“The suspect demanded that the employee open the cash register,” police said. “When the employee told the suspect they couldn’t open the cash register, the suspect fled on foot. There was no loss or injuries during the incident.”

Police described the would-be thief as a roughly a thin, 5-foot-7 white man, 20 to 25 years old, with short black hair.

Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call police at (619) 667-1400.
