Man dies after being hit by Amtrak train in Carlsbad

A man is dead after being hit by a train overnight in Carlsbad.

Just after 11 p.m. last night, a southbound Amtrak train hit a man on the railroad track just south of the 400 block of Tamarack Avenue. The train was travelling at approximately 70 to 80 miles per hour when the accident took place.

The man suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unclear as to why the accident occurred.
