Man dies in construction accident at Monte Vista High School

SPRING VALLEY (KUSI) – A worker was killed Wednesday afternoon in a fall from a 30-foot-high platform in a construction zone at Monte Vista High School.

The fatal industrial accident at the campus in the 3200 block of Sweetwater Springs Boulevard in Spring Valley occurred shortly before 2 p.m., according to sheriff’s officials.

Medics took the mortally injured 30-year-old worker to Sharp Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His name was withheld pending family notification.

The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, or Cal/OSHA, was called in to investigate the fatality, Sgt. Matt Cook said.

Because the accident may have been witnessed by students and school staffers, crisis counselors will be available at the campus on Thursday, the sergeant said.
