Update: Homicide detectives identify man found drowned in water off Blacks Beach

BLACKS BEACH (KUSI) — Monday 6:30 a.m. — Authorities Monday publicly identified a 51-year-old man who apparently drowned in the water off Blacks Beach this weekend.

Luisito Rivera was seen going into the water at the popular beach Saturday afternoon and was spotted face down shortly afterward, according to fire officials and the county Medical Examiner’s Office.

Rivera died at the scene despite efforts to save him, authorities said.

6/18/2016 — A man believed to be in his 40s drowned at Blacks Beach Saturday afternoon, according to authorities. Officials have not released the victim’s name, waiting to notify his next of kin first. 

Bystanders attempted to save the man but were unable to help him. A 911 call was placed at 1:51 p.m. to the 9700 block of Black Gold Road, indicating a possible drowning had happened and that CPR was in progress, according to San Diego Fire Rescue Capt. Joe Amador. Lifeguards and paramedics attempted to revive the victim upon arrival but the man was pronounced dead shortly after, according to Amador.
