Man faced with murder charges connected to the fatal beating of his mother
EL CAJON (KUSI) – Authorities released the name of the woman who was fatally beaten over the weekend, allegedly by her son, in El Cajon Monday.
Deputies found 63-year-old Martha Margain-Velarde suffering from severe injuries. She was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her son, a 34-year-old Erik Enrique Margain is facing a murder charge Monday in connection with the fatal beating of his mother at a home outside El Cajon.
Deputies sent to investigate the assault in the 1900 block of Hidden Crest Drive shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday Margain-Velarde suffering from trauma to her upper body, sheriff’s Lt. John Maryon said.
Maryon said the Erik Enrique Margain “severely physically assaulted her,” then beat his older brother, but that man was able to get away and call for help.
No motive for the attacks was made public.
Detectives tracked down Erik Enrique Margain in the 1500 block of Gustavo Street, about a half-mile north of the site of the assaults, and arrested him on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Margain was being held without bail at San Diego Central Jail pending arraignment, scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
