Man fatally injured in jaywalking incident in Escondido identified

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The man injured in Escondido intersection while jaywalking has been identified.

The Medical Examiner confirmed the body of 44-year-old Eric A. Smith.

Smith was struck by a Chevy 2500 driven by a San Marcos man while Smith was attempting to cross the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and Broadway in Escondido.

The driver, whose name has not been released, entered the intersection on a green light, but didn’t see Smith in time to stop.

Smith was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he died from multiple brunt force injuries.

Police said the driver was not suspected of being drunk during the incident.
