Man in custody after leading police on pursuit through North Park

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — An auto theft suspect who refused to yield for a traffic stop in North Park led officers on a 10-minute road chase Monday before getting cornered on a dead-end street in Golden Hill and winding up in custody.

The pursuit began shortly after 2 p.m. in the area of University Avenue and Bancroft Street, according to San Diego police.

Patrol personnel tailed the stolen 2013 Hyundai Elantra over various roadways — including Boundary, Laurel and Palm streets, Wabash Avenue, state Route 94, and north- and southbound Interstate 805 — before turning onto the 2800 block of F Street, a stretch of road with only one access point.

Officers took the two occupants of the sedan, a man and woman, into custody without incident, SDPD spokesman Joshua Hodge said. Their names were not immediately released.

It was not immediately clear if the passenger would face any charges in the case.
