Man in custody after leading sheriff’s on pursuit through Vista

VISTA (KUSI) — A man was taken into custody Thursday night after leading San Diego sheriff’s on a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. 

At approximately 8:15 p.m., the San Diego Sheriffs Department attempted to pull over a vehicle suspected of being stolen. The vehicle failed to yield to deputies and a pursuit followed.

According to sheriff’s, the pursuit only lasted a few miles and came to end at E. Vista Way and Francis in Vista. The man took off running as deputies surrounded the area.

The stolen vehicle was not placed in park and rolled back into two parked cars. All damages appeared to be minor.

A witness notified deputies that they had seen a man crawl into a dumpster at the KFC Restaurant located nearby. Deputies then pulled the man out of the dumpster at gunpoint as a K-9 stood by ready to intervene.

The man suffered minor injuries as he fled the scene, no force by deputies was involved in his injuries.

The rightful owner of the vehicle is on their way to the scene to pick up the car. Contact SDSO for additional details.
