Man in custody after standoff in La Mesa

LA MESA (KUSI) — A 31-year-old male was arrested Monday after a fight with an elder man turned into a standoff in La Mesa.

According to San Diego Sheriff’s, Aaron Spaulding was driving quickly through a neighborhood  in the 4300 block of Alta Mira Drive when he was confronted by a 78-year-old man about his driving.

The younger male hit the older male and then ran into his parent’s home and grabbed a knife.

Sheriff’s were called to the scene around 5:30 p.m. because the man was refusing to leave the home.

"Spaulding went into his home and refused to come out," sheriff’s Sgt. Matthew Mays said. After a period of time, he exited the house and was taken into custody for elder abuse.

At approximately 8:30, the male surrendered to sheriff’s and was taken into custody.

The incident is still under investigation, but authorities believe the man may have been on drugs.
