Man killed in car-to-car shooting in Chula Vista

CHULA VISTA (CNS) – A car-to-car shooting on a Chula Vista street fatally wounded a motorist Wednesday, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted in the 500 block of E Street shortly before 10 a.m., according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

Following the shooting, the assailant, a short-haired man driving a gray or silver four-door sedan, fled west toward Interstate 5, police said.

The victim, believed to be a Chula Vista resident in his 30s, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

It was unclear what precipitated the shooting, which prompted police to temporarily shut down the street to through traffic between Ash Avenue and Broadway for investigative purposes.

KUSI’s Teresa Sardina spoke with Chula Vista Police Sgt. Anthony Molina as they investigated the deadly shooting.

The street was open again as of 2:30 p.m., according to police.
