Man pleads guilty to University City apartment statutory rape

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A 22-year-old man who sexually assaulted a teenage acquaintance on the grounds of a University City apartment complex pleaded guilty Tuesday to statutory rape.

Erick Rojas faces a maximum of six years and eight months in prison when he is sentenced Sept. 2.

The defendant was socializing with the girl in the 7600 block of Palmilla Drive, along with two other men, when he attacked her about 9 p.m. on Feb. 25.

“She yelled for help, and a nearby security guard called police,” SDPD Lt. Chuck Kaye said.

When patrol officers arrived, the suspect ran off, the lieutenant said. They arrested him following a brief foot chase.
