Man rescued from ship off coast of Point Loma

A 26-year-old man was medically evacuated from a cruise ship about 50 miles southwest of Point Loma on Monday, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

The crew of the Carnival Inspiration alerted the Coast Guard about 11:45 a.m. and requested help for a passenger who was experiencing a rapid heart rate and possible heart problems, according to Petty Officer 1st Class Henry Dunphy.

An aircrew in a MH-Jayhawk helicopter hoisted the man and a nurse from the ship and took them to U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego, where the man was turned over to emergency medical personnel, Dunphy said.
