Man sentenced to one year after sexually assaulting girl on bus

CHULA VISTA (CNS) – A man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl as they rode a bus through National City was sentenced Friday to a year in jail and ordered to register as sex offender.

Dajamah Blevins, 28, was convicted in August of misdemeanor battery and child molestation.

Blevins was on felony probation for a 2012 grand theft conviction when he assaulted the girl on the bus, said Deputy District Attorney Casey French.

The defendant received a two-year prison term on the probation violation, which was ordered to run concurrently to his jail sentence.

Blevins was arrested June 3 after a Metropolitan Transit System security officer recognized him as matching the description of the suspect in the May 28 sexual assault, according to National City police.

The 17-year-old victim told investigators the perpetrator boarded the MTS vehicle at a bus stop on 24th Street, then sat next to her and groped her.

When the girl tried to move away, Blevins blocked her way and continued assaulting her, asking her age and telling her he was 24, said NCPD Sgt. Alex Hernandez.

After the bus stopped at 30th Street and Highland Avenue, the victim reported the crime to the driver, who chased Blevins off the bus.

A security camera captured images of the suspect, and police distributed them via San Diego County Crime Stoppers fliers.
