Man seriously injured in collision at Sorrento Valley intersection

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – A man was seriously injured when his car collided with a box truck at an intersection in the Sorrento Valley area, police said.

It happened shortly before 2:40 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Mira Mesa Boulevard and Pacific Heights Boulevard, San Diego Police Officer John Buttle said.

A 55-year-old man driving a 1999 two-door Saturn sedan entered the intersection northbound on Pacific Heights Boulevard as a 24-year-old woman driving a 2008 GMC box truck entered the intersection eastbound on Mira Mesa Boulevard and the vehicles collided, Buttle said.

The man was taken to a hospital with a fractured ilium and a fractured cervical vertebrae, Buttle said. The injuries were not believed to be life- threatening.

The woman had a complaint of pain to the right side of her body, Buttle said.

Alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the collision, Buttle said.

It was not immediately clear who was at fault for the accident.
