Man shoots pit bull in Valencia Park

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – Police are investigating the fatal shooting of
a pit bull by a homeowner in the Valencia Park section of San Diego.

The dog was shot around 8:30 p.m. Monday in the 5800 block of Duluth
Avenue, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros.

The pit bull attacked a man and his husky, so the man went into his
house and got a shotgun, Delimitros said.

The man hit the attacking dog with the butt of the gun, but the animal
would not retreat, so he opened fire, Delimitros said.

“This is not the first time this has happened,” Delimitros said.

The man was bitten, but the extent of his injuries was not clear,
Delimitros said.

He was not facing charges in connection with the shooting, the officer
said.
