Man shot after attempted robbery

A man suffered a graze wound when he struggled with a gunman who attempted to rob him and a woman in the Bay Terrace section of San Diego, police said.

The victim and a female companion were in a parked car in the 2600 block of Pennington Lane around 9:50 p.m. Friday when the suspect pointed a handgun at them and demanded their money and belongings, said San Diego police Officer Frank Cali.

The man grabbed the handgun, but ended up getting pistol whipped and then shot by the suspect, the bullet grazing his shoulder, Cali said.

The suspect fled in a small gray or silver sedan, Cali said.

He was described as a man in his 20s, 5 feet 8 inches tall and wearing dark clothing.
