Man shot with beanbag gun, arrested following disturbance in East Village
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A transient was in custody Monday after he was shot several times with a beanbag shotgun and bitten by a police dog in the East Village, police said.
Officers received a report of a possibly armed transient disturbing the peace at The Hive Sushi Lounge at 1409 C St. at 10:42 p.m. Sunday, according to San Diego police Officer Dan Lasher.
Once there, they found the man and learned that he had been kicked out of the business and returned, Lasher said, adding that he was screaming curse words at officers and appeared mentally unstable.
He refused to cooperate with officers’ demands to surrender and was shot several times with a beanbag shotgun before he was eventually taken into custody with help from a police dog, Lasher said. He suffered minor injuries.
The entire incident took about 15 minutes.
