Man sitting on I-15 with pellet rifle arrested

SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A man was arrested in Serra Mesa after motorists spotted him today sitting at the side of Interstate 15 with a pellet rifle on his lap.

Several passers-by reported seeing the white-haired, bearded man, who appeared to be in his 50s or 60s, seated in a patch of shrubbery next to the southbound lanes south of Aero Drive shortly before 10:30 a.m., according to San Diego police.

Officers contacted the suspect several minutes later, questioned him and took him into custody, SDPD public affairs Lt. Andra Brown said. His name was not immediately available.

There was no immediate indication that the suspect had fired the weapon or threatened anyone with it, according to Brown. He dropped it as police approached, she said.
