SAN YSIDRO (CNS) – A man was struck and killed by a trolley Monday night in what police were told was an apparent suicide.

The driver of the trolley told police the victim was lying on the tracks and he was unable to stop in time, San Diego Police Department Office Dino Delimitros said.

The man was struck near West Seaward Avenue, just south of the Beyer Boulevard trolley station, Delimitros said.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System halted service south of Beyer Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. because of the fatality, Delimitros said.
