Man to be sentenced for attempting to kill father

VISTA (CNS) – Sentencing was postponed Tuesday until Dec. 16 for a man who shot his father in the back on the Los Coyotes Indian Reservation near Warner Springs in northeast San Diego County.

Phillip Lonewolf Campbell, 36, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to attempted murder.

Sheriff’s officials said Campbell opened fire on his father about 4:30 p.m. on May 17, then ran off into hilly terrain in the area of Hot Springs Mountain.

Campbell was detained by tribal police two days later at a home on the reservation and was turned over to sheriff’s deputies.

Investigators have not disclosed a motive for the shooting.
