Man who fatally beat cousin sentenced to 12 years in state prison

EL CAJON (KUSI) – A man who beat his 23-year-old cousin to death was sentenced Tuesday to 12 years in state prison.

Patrick Joseph, 49, pleaded guilty last month to voluntary manslaughter in the June 13, 2014 death of Teddy Pablo. Joseph beat Pablo with a piece of wood at the defendant’s home in the Campo Indian Reservation.

Pablo was found dying by paramedics and deputies at a home in the 36600 block of Highway 94 around 6:40 p.m.

According to Deputy District Attorney Daniel Shim, the defendant, victim and the defendant’s twin were all home drinking on the day of the murder.

The Defendant and the victim got into an argument and the defendant hit the victim in the face with a piece of wood twice, fatally injuring him.
