La Jolla Country Day Torreys 28, Maranatha Christian Eagles 14
The 1-3 La Jolla County Day Torreys took on the 3-1 Maranatha Christian Eagles, but the Torreys pulled off an upset, 28-14, as another week of high school football has come to a close and the PPR covered it all at La Jolla Country Day High School on Friday night.
Although the Eagles were defeated, star running back Logan Godwin came out to fight for the Eagles.
During the first quarter, Godwin was in on just about every play. Two of his plays resulted in touchdown runs, putting the Eagles on the scoreboard with 14 points, all coming from Godwin himself.
Godwin and the Eagles put up one heck of a fight but the Torreys ended on top.
The La Jolla Country Day Torrey’s had a very well-played game with their defense as a big highlight.
The Torreys defense not only held Godwin to only two touchdowns but also had two interceptions and two fumbles recovered.
Also, defensive lineman Brandon Kim had back-to-back sacks.
The offense was looking pretty good as well, as quarterback Philip Gooding had three completed touchdowns.
This game was special because it was teacher and staff appreciation night. Each player and cheerleader got to nominate and teacher to walk out on the field at halftime to recognized for their hard work and support to the team and school.
Next week, you can catch La Jolla Country Day at home where they will be taking on Tri-City Christian.
As for the Maranatha Eagles they will look to make a come back next week against their rivals, Classical Academy, in a home non-league matchup.
