Marine found fatally stabbed at Camp Pendleton identified
CAMP PENDLETON (KUSI) — A Camp Pendleton Marine found fatally stabbed was identified Wednesday as 18-year-old Private First Class Ethan Barclay-Weberpal, according to the U.S. Marine Corps.
The stabbing was reported shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday at a School of Infantry West facility at the northern San Diego County military station, according to Marine Capt. Joshua Pena, a spokesman for the Corps’ Virginia-based Training and Education Command.
“An NCIS [Naval Criminal Investigative Service] investigation has been opened, and is currently ongoing,” Marine Capt. Joshua Pena told Marine Corps Times Tuesday. “The name of the Marine in confinement, also assigned to the same unit, will not be released at this time.”
On Facebook, Barclay-Weberpal’s father confirmed his death saying in part, “It’s with excruciating sadness and tears in my eyes that I’m writing this – my only son, my own blood, Marine PFC Ethan Andrew Barlcay-Weberpal, was killed yesterday morning at Camp Pendleton, CA …”
According to WMTV News, Barclay-Weberpal was assigned to Lima Company, Headquarters and Services Battalion at SOI-West. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on July 17th, 2017 and was awarded the National Defense Ribbon.
