Martin Luther King Day celebrated with service across San Diego

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – In honor of tomorrow’s MLK Day holiday, the Human Rights Campaign has partnered with organizations on a service project to benefit homeless youth.

The event is known as Martin Luther King Day of Service, and it kicked off earlier today at the LaFayette hotel in El Cajon to collect donated items that will be distributed to homeless children around the county.

California state Senator Toni Atkins was on hand to lend her support for the event as well.

Along with the Day of Service, the 40th annual MLK Jr. Parade was held along the waterfront.

The parade featured bands, floats, drill teams and other organizations to honor Doctor King’s legacy.

KUSI Photojournalist Elliot Macias shows us an inside look at the day’s celebrations.
