Masked man robs Encinitas bank at gunpoint

ENCINITAS (CNS) – A masked man armed with a pistol robbed a North County bank Monday.

The thief, who appeared to be in his mid-20s to early 30s, confronted a teller at the California Bank and Trust branch office in the 100 block of Saxony Road in Encinitas shortly before 10 a.m., according to the FBI.

Clutching a black handgun and carrying a black duffel bag, the bandit ordered the clerk to give him hundred-dollar bills with no “tracking devices” in them.

After the employee complied, the robber said, “That’s not enough,” and started toward the back of the building, the FBI reported. He stopped when he noticed employees in another room, then walked out of the bank and fled in an unknown direction.

Witnesses described him as a roughly 6-foot, 190-pound black man with an athletic build, according to the FBI. He was wearing gray pants, a blue hooded sweat shirt, sunglasses and a camouflage-pattern bandana over his nose and mouth.
