Mater Dei 42, Montgomery 14

Week 8 ended on a good note for the (3-4) Mater Dei Crusaders. The Crusaders traveled about 10 miles to the home of the (1-6) Montgomery Aztecs. The final, 42-14 Crusaders.

On an exciting note, former Charger, Moses Moreno, was a line judge for the game. Not only did Moreno play for the Chargers, but he is a local. Moreno went to Castle Park High School and obviously played football.

The night began with the Crusaders asserting their dominance against the Aztecs throughout the first quarter. Yet, they were not able to score until the second quarter. Crusader quarterback, Jarrod Rieta made a 57 yard screen pass to Quinten Frazier resulting in a quarter keeper for the score; two plays later. Crusader, CJ Verdell also got a chance to score in the second with a 6 yard touchdown run.

With what should be a play of the week candidate, Mike Pimentel intercepted Aztec quarterback, Nate Aragon; returning the ball 96 yards for a touchdown!

By the beginning of the fourth quarter, Montgomery managed to score twice with a quarterback sneak from Nate Aragon and a 2 yard run from Israel Dorame.

The game was sealed when Israel Dorame fumbled the ball on a crucial drive. Crusader, Mario Williams, recovered the ball and returned it 37 yards for another Mater Dei touchdown!
