Mater Dei Crusaders 21, Otay Ranch Mustangs 20

Week 7 is now in the books and some teams are now 1-0 in league play while others drop to 0-1.
The Otay Ranch Mustangs (2-5) and the Mater Dei Crusaders (6-1) played a classic down in the south bay on the Mustangs teacher appreciation night.
Otay Ranch opened up the scoring when running back Fenuki Kauvaka would scamper for a 68 yard touchdown run to put the Mustangs on top 7-0.
Mater Dei would respond with a 79 yard touchdown pass from Chris Jones to Elijah Shelton. That ties the game at 7 before the break.
There would be no scoring until the 4th quarter when Cristian Zamudio hooked up with Devin Lloyd for a 32 yard touchdown pass, 14-7 Otay Ranch.
But the crusaders won’t go down easy, Chris Jones and Elijah Shelton would connect for two more touchdowns.
But the controversial touchdown would be the 37 yard touchdown pass from Jones to Shelton as it looks to be throw just short of the touchdown but the refs call it a touchdown to make it 21-14 Mater Dei.
Otay Ranch would travel down field after the score.
With 34 seconds left on the clock, the Mustangs would call on Fenuki Kauvaka and he would score on the 1 yard touchdown run.
Otay Ranch would go for two points for the win but Kauvaka would get hit in the back field and land shy of the end zone as Mater Dei holds on to win, the final 21-20.
Player of the game:
Chris Jones- 303 Passing Yards & 3 Touchdowns
