Mayor of Poway and candidate for County Supervisor Steve Vaus on help for Poway restaurants

POWAY (KUSI) – Mayor of Poway and candidate for County Supervisor Steve Vaus said he wants to make the relaxed outdoor dining program permanent and extend the loan of the picnic tables indefinitely.

Early in the pandemic, with restaurants suffering as a result of restrictions on indoor dining, Poway took two steps to help.

First, they relaxed the policy on outdoor dining, allowing eateries to use parking lots and sidewalks as an outdoor dining space.

Second, they offered to loan picnic tables to all Poway restaurants for their use, free of charge.

“The relaxed restrictions and picnic tables have allowed restaurants to provide an enjoyable dining experience safely. Equally important, community response to all of the new outdoor dining opportunities has been overwhelmingly positive. It’s clear, pandemic or not, outdoor dining has added a new vibrancy to our city,” said Mayor Vaus

At the CIty of Poway’s next meeting Vaus said he will ask City Council to approve his request.
