MCAS Miramar unveils new F-35C fighter jet

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – The most advanced fighter jet in the military has arrived in Miramar.

The Department of Defense says the $103 million fighter jet is the largest of its kind and is unlike any other aircraft.

There are currently two of the new fighter jets based at MCAS Miramar. The plan is to have 10 to 20 more by the end of 2020, and 75 of the F-35’s over the next 10 years. The new jets will phase out the F/A 18 fighter jets currently at the base.

KUSI Photojournalist Elliot Macias was at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar for the jet’s official introduction.
