Meb Keflezighi talks Rock and Roll Marathon
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – 2014 Boston Marathon Winner Meb Keflezighi returned to KUSI Studios Tuesday. In an exclusive conversation with Paul Rudy, the former San Diego high runner discussed the upcoming San Diego Rock N’ Roll Marathon and his first event running in the Masters Division.
“Last year (the Rock N’ Roll Marathon) was my victory lap for the hometown fans. I had just won the Boston Marathon so I wasn’t ready to run competitively. This Sunday the half marathon is also the USATF’s Masters National Championship. So I’m running to win!”
During the 7 minute interview, Keflezighi covers a variety of subjects, ranging from marathon tips for 1st time competitors; “stay off your feet the day before the race. Everybody forgets to do that.” He also discusses his visit to the Dave Letterman show. After winning the 2009 NYC Marathon, Meb was asked to present the “Top 10 thoughts that go through your mind when running the New York City Marathon. “I hope that was Gatorade was the punch line” recalls Keflezighi.
The Meb Foundation is a project near and dear to the runner’s heart. “I worked most of my life to achieve something like winning the New York City marathon, and now that I have done it, it is important to utilize my success to benefit others.”
Remember everybody Meb stands for “Maintaining Excellent Balance” in life.
