Medfly quarantine placed after insects are found in La Mesa
LA MESA (KUSI) – A 93-square mile Mediterranean fruit fly quarantine was placed in San Diego after four of the insects were discovered in La Mesa Tuesday.
The quarantine covers all of La Mesa, El Cajon and Spring Valley, the southern border of Santee, northeastern section of Chula Vista, and certain eastern neighborhoods of San Diego.
The California Department of Food and Agriculture stated that the Medfly quarantine growers, wholesalers and retailers of susceptible fruit, as well as home gardeners.
Residents who believe their fruits and vegetables are infested with fruit fly larvae are asked to call the state's toll-free Pest Hotline at (800) 491-1899.
