Media Analyst and Author Mark Dice on why Twitter is banning political ads ahead of the 2020 election
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that he is banning all paid political ads on the platform starting on November 22, 2019.
The announcement comes amid increasing scrutiny of how the different social media companies are handling political ads.
Facebook, has been criticized mainly by Democrats, after CEO Mark Zuckerberg said they would not be regulating and preventing “false” ads from being run on the platform. Zuckerberg said he is not in the business of regulation, that is up to those who want to publish. Why should a tech company determine which ad is true, and which ad is false?
Senator Ted Cruz has been one of the outspoken Senators defending Zuckerberg and leading the fight against social media censorship.
Media Analyst and Author Mark Dice, who has over 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, has personal experience with tech companies “hiding” his content.
He told KUSI’s Logan Byrnes that Twitter is in fact a liberal platform, as proven by the left leaning topics that continually appear in the trending topics list.
Furthermore, Brad Parscale, Campaign Manager for the Donald Trump 2020 Presidential Campaign, believes this is just an attempt by big tech to silence the Trump campaign ahead of the 2020 election.
He released a statement in response that reads, “Twitter just walked away from hundred of millions of dollars of potential revenue, a very dumb decision for their stockholders. Will Twitter also be stopping ads from biased liberal media outlets who will now run unchecked as they buy obvious political content meant to attack Republicans? This is yet another attempt to silence conservatives, since Twitter knows President Trump has the most sophisticated online program ever known.”
