Law enforcement officials keep travelers safe over holiday weekend
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — Skies were a little gray, the beaches a bit slow, but overall the Memorial Day Weekend remained safe for San Diegans.
Officers for the California Highway Patrol were on high alert for the holiday weekend, making sure impaired drivers stayed off the roads.
According to the San Diego Police Department, DUI checkpoints are a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug-related crashes.
Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.
