SDPD officer Jonathan JD De Guzman remembered a year after his death
SAN DIEGO (KUSI) — It has been one year since San Diego police Officer Jonathan J.D. De Guzman lost his life in the line of duty.
Gang Unit Officer De Guzman — a 16-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department — was fatally shot during a pedestrian stop of two men in the Southcrest neighborhood of San Diego last year along with his partner Wade Irwin.

Nine-year veteran Officer Irwin was shot in the throat. Despite his injuries, he was able to shoot one of the suspects, later identified as Jesse Michael Gomez, and activate his body camera, allowing responding San Diego police officers to find Gomez.
A second suspect has not been found.
16-year SDPD veteran Officer De Guzman died at the hospital, leaving behind a wife and two kids.
A memorial workout in honor of fallen San Diego police Officer Jonathan J.D. De Guzman will be held Saturday at gyms across San Diego for the second year. Funds raised at the workout events will go to the San Diego Police Officer’s Association Widow and Orphan’s Fund.
