Mesa College set to open new language center
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – San Diego Mesa College will celebrate International Education Week Wednesday with the opening of its newly renovated language center.
The facility on the second floor of the learning resource center features six new smart classrooms, a language laboratory, an open computer lab, a new faculty development room, offices and an interactive learning lounge for students. The 10 a.m. grand opening ceremony will take place amid other International Education Week events, including faculty presentations, student-led language exchanges and an international education fair and film festival.
“Mesa College is proud to offer one of the most comprehensive and expansive language programs in Southern California,” President Pamela T. Luster said. “The remodeled center not only enhances our instructional program … it also complements the college’s strategic goal of helping our students to grow in their understanding of cultural competency, and to become engaged global citizens.”
College officials said the improved language center would support the San Diego Mesa College’s curriculum, which offers instruction in 10 languages and three degree programs.
The renovation was part of an improvement project that used bond funds to also modify buildings to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and add acoustical treatments throughout the central atrium.
