Middle school girl foils kidnap attempt
LA PRESA (CNS) – A middle school student reported that a man grabbed her Tuesday and tried to pull her into a minivan as she walked on an East County road.
The 12-year-old told deputies she was on her way to school about 8 a.m. when the dark-colored vehicle pulled up alongside her at Ramona Avenue and St. George Street in La Presa, sheriff's Sgt. Mario Zermeno said.
One of the van's two occupants asked the girl if she wanted a ride, according to Zermeno. The other man then opened a passenger door, took hold of the student's backpack and began dragging her toward the vehicle.
The student broke free and fled, running to nearby La Presa Middle School, which she attends. There, she reported the incident to staffers, who called the Sheriff's Department.
The girl, who was uninjured, said the van appeared to be a Dodge or Honda and had tinted windows and a dented back bumper, Lt. Dave Brown said.
