Millions of students chronically absent from school each year

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – It’s the end of September, and all month long the San Diego County Board of Education have been working alongside a nationwide initiative called School Attendance Awareness Month.

Millions of students around the nation are chronically absent each year.

That translates into at least 10% of the school year, and studies show that when students miss that much school, they are more likely to drop out later on.

Don Buchheit, from the San Diego County Office of Education, talked to KUSI News about the importance to keep students in school. Watch the sit-down-interview with Buchheit.
