SAN DIEGO (KUSI)- Local companies are starting the New Year by looking at more cost-cutting measures as the minimum wage increases to $12 an hour. In the city of San Diego, the minimum wage is going up by 50 cents an hour for companies employing 26 or more workers.

In California, today’s wage hike will be the 5th since 2009 when the minimum wage increased from $8 to $9 an hour.

In some cities, like San Francisco, the minimum wage is much higher, having reached $15 an hour in 2018.
