Molest suspect found asleep in SUV near day-care center
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A Santee firearms trainer and self-described security
expert was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of molesting at least four children
over the last several decades.
Tony Lee Burleson, 43, was the subject of a child-abuse arrest warrant
when San Diego police found him asleep in his bright-yellow Hummer SUV in a
parking lot near a church day-care center on Santo Road in Tierrasanta about
4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to sheriff's Lt. James Bolwerk.
Authorities had been looking for Burleson since Friday, when a person
reported having allegedly been sexually assaulted by him in the 1980s, Bolwerk
told reporters. Detectives subsequently identified three other alleged child-
molestation victims, the lieutenant said.
The suspect, operator of Burleson Academy on East Douglas Avenue in El
Cajon, also is suspected of impersonating a peace officer on at least one
occasion, SDPD Lt. Darryl Hoover told news crews.
Burleson was being held in San Diego Central Jail in lieu of $150,000
bail pending arraignment, scheduled for this afternoon.
