Mom arrested for allegedly murdering 9-year-old daughter
SAN DIEGO (CNS) – A Mountain View woman was jailed Monday on suspicion of murdering her 9-year-old daughter, who was found beaten to death in their apartment two weeks ago.
Homicide detectives arrested Crystal Cardenas, 25, shortly before 10:30 a.m. as she walked in the 1600 block of Canyon Road in Spring Valley, according to San Diego police.
Patrol officers and medics responding to an emergency call late on the evening of Jan. 17 found Cardenas' daughter, Elizabeth Holloway, unconscious and not breathing in her family's Milbrae Street residence, SDPD Lt. Kevin Rooney said.
The youngster was pronounced dead at a hospital about 90 minutes later. An autopsy determined that she had died of blunt-force injuries, and her death was ruled a homicide.
Cardenas will be booked into Las Colinas women's jail in Santee this afternoon on a murder charge, the lieutenant said.
The family had moved into the apartment just south of Mount Hope Cemetery shortly before the girl's death, according to Rooney.
